From the dark and decadent Black Russian, to the notoriously deadly Black Widow Martini, these black cocktails are perfect for the spooky season. Happy Halloween!
The Black Russian
The Black Russian is a strong and outspoken cocktail with a certain mystery to it. It’s made-up of vodka and kahlúa and its history goes all the way back to 1949, to elite parties and the Iron Curtain.
Ingredients:
Kahlúa (30 ml) • Vodka (60 ml) • ice
Tools:
Bar jigger • bar spoon • ice bucket
Instructions:
The White Russian
The White Russian is a sweet, milky cocktail with vodka, kahlúa and cream. It became wildly popular with the release of the film “The Big Lebowski”, in which Jeff Bridges’ character, the Dude, is sipping it exclusively—and constantly.
“The creamer and coffee liqueur have a rich sweetness that mostly masks the alcohol flavour from the vodka. It’s damn near a dessert. Let skip the main course and go straight to the sweet ending.”
Ingredients:
Kahlúa (30 ml) • Vodka (60 ml) • Cream (60 ml) • ice
Tools:
Bar jigger • bar spoon • ice bucket • milk jug
Instructions:
- With a jigger, add the vodka and the kahlúa.
- Add the ice.
- Stir with a bar spoon.
- Pour the cream over a bar spoon into the glass.
- Sip like the Dude!
The Black Widow Martini
The Black Widow Martini takes its name from the notoriously deadly spider, the Black Widow. They favour the dark, and strike when you’re least expecting it, much like this cocktail. Made up of vodka, kahlúa and black berry juice, this cocktail is almost as deadly as it is sweet. Are you brave enough?
Ingredients:
Kahlúa (30 ml) • Vodka (60 ml) • black berry juice (60 ml) • ice
Tools:
Shaker • Bar jigger • strainer • ice bucket
Instructions:
- Decorate your martini glass with licorice “spider“ legs.
- Add approx. 4 ice cubes to your shaker.
- Using a bar jigger, add the vodka, the kahlúa and the black berry juice.
- Close shaker and shake firmly until the shaker becomes frosty.
- Using a bar strainer, pour the cocktail into your martini glass.
- Serve your spooky cocktail!
